The History of Sephikantswana

Sephikantswana’s history dates back to the 1880s when it was founded by Mr. Ishmael Mmankgodi Molekwa. For generations, this land was home to prosperous farming families. However, in 1899, during the Anglo-Boer War, the Sephikantswana community was forcibly dispossessed of their land, which was handed over to Mr. John Mortimer as a reward for his wartime service. Over time, the land was divided into smaller farms, and the community was reduced to laboring on their own soil.

Despite these challenges, the Sephikantswana people, led by Mr. Silas Molekwa, never gave up the fight to reclaim their ancestral land. In 1998, a formal land claim was lodged under South Africa’s Land Restitution Policy. After two decades of persistent struggle, the land was finally restored to the Sephikantswana community in 2018, marking a triumphant return to their heritage.
Today, the Sephikantswana CPA is dedicated to honoring this history by ensuring the land is used to benefit current and future generations.
